One of the most anticipated races of the meet was the 1600 Meter Run that included Audra Soderlind of Oswego, Liv Phillips of Naperville Central, Catherine Sommerfeld of Lyons Township, and Catie McCabe. Soderlind and Sommerfeld both ran earlier in the meet in the 4x800m Relay. The 1600 would be the first race of the meet for the two WSC-Silver distance stars.

Soderlind took the lead and paced the pack through a 2:31 opening half. McCabe had the splints written on her arm and did not match what they were running as they passed through the second 400 in 77 seconds. Just before that halfway point, the Hinsdale senior took off pushing the pace.

The third 400 of the race sped up the pace at 76 seconds. McCabe was slowly pulling away from Soderlind and Sommerfeld as she passed 1200-meters in 3:47. Phillips and Julie Piot of Naperville North were in the next pack.

It was not the fast pace that McCabe wanted in this meet hoping for a time under five-minutes. But the 5:02.55 (IL #4) was fast enough for her to win the race.

“I was hoping to run that kind of split at 800-meters, maybe a little faster,” McCabe said after the meet. “I was a little ambitious with what I wanted to do. I still am happy with my performance.”

Sommerfeld closed the gap on McCabe in the final lap to run 5:04.08 (IL #8) to finish second. Phillips ran 5:07.68 passing Soderlind (5:07.66) to finish fourth. Marley Andelman of St. Charles East moved in the last half of the race to finish fifth (5:13.99) just finishing ahead of Piot (5:15.15).

Sarah Skora was one of those Hinsdale distance winners in this meet in the 800 Meter Run. Addison George of Naperville Central led for most of the fourth section of the event. Skora passed George with 100-meters left in the race to claim her first win in any varsity race. Skora’s time of 2:21.00 edged George (2:21.51), Elayna Boeh of Glenbard West (2:22.02), and Abby Moog of Naperville Central (2:22.41).

Skora also ran the third leg for Hinsdale Central in the 4x400m Relay as she put her team in position in second-place giving the baton to McCabe who started her leg right behind then leading Lyons Township. McCabe pulled away for her team running a 58.7 anchor leg to give Hinsdale Central the win in 4:06.88 (IL #4) ahead of Lyons Township (4:10.20, IL #9) and Naperville Central (4:15.47).

Sarah Fischer was the third distance winner for Hinsdale Central pulling away just before the half way point of the race to win the 3200 Meter Run with a 11:08.35 time. Ava Hendren of Hinsdale Central moved up in the final three laps to run 11:13.20 to finish second. Charlotte Lange of Lyons Township (11:18.03) and Rianna Tandon of Naperville North (11:26.88) both ran personal bests to finish third and fourth.

Lyons Township changed up their line-up in the 4x800m Relay putting their all-state runner Catherine Sommerfeld in the second leg of the race. Sommerfeld broke the race wide open in her leg running a 2:19.1 split and giving the Lions a sizeable win. Sommerfeld, Anna Bylsma, Kristina Findley, and Shannon Cranny went on to run the state’s fastest time in the relay (9:37.17) to win the race. Glenbard West ran 9:44.91 (IL #4) to finish second ahead of Yorkville at 9:51.67 (IL #9) and Wheaton-Warrenville-South (9:53.44).

Naperville Central scored in all of the 15 events contested in this meet to win with 112 points. The Redhawks were led by the double win from Brooke Sawatzky. The junior jumped 17-9.75 to win the Long Jump ahead of Kyla Motley of Shepard  (17-7.5). The two athletes both faced off in the 55 Meter Hurdles with Sawatzky again with the win in a 8.87 time (IL #5) just ahead of Motley who ran 8.92 (IL #8). In a close competition in the Pole Vault, Kait McHale of Naperville Central cleared 12-1 to win the event. Jaiden Knoop of Lincoln-Way East cleared 11-10.25 to finish second.

Lincoln-Way East scored 86 points to finish second ahead of Hinsdale Central (74 points), Lyons Township (59 points), and Metea Valley (47 points).

The top field event performance in this meet came from Courtney Clabough. The Yorkville sophomore had a 40-2.75 performance (IL #2) to win the Shot Put. Allison Roozeboom of Naperville Central had a 34-5.5 put to finish a distant second.

Asha Pierre-Antoine of Lincoln-Way East jumped 37-8 to win the Triple Jump to finish ahead of Brooke Sawatzky (37-3.75) and Kyla Motley (35-8.25). Annastasia Murphy of Metea Valley cleared an indoor best of 5-6.5 (IL #3) to win the High Jump finishing ahead of Lincoln-Way East’s Alaina Pollard (5-1) and Delaney Brown (4-11).
